A farmhouse renovated, Sutton, Quebec.
A dark, cramped, and crumbling farmhouse cried out to be repaired,
solidified and opened up to the south light and view. Most of all,
the owners sought a feeling of expansive interior space, with ample
room for country living and entertaining, within the cottage's tiny
original footprint.
The solution was
to demolish all of the first floor partitions,
supporting the vintage plank and beam ceiling with heavy hemlock posts,
leaving just the original staircase at the center of the floor plan.
Warm, honey-coloured
local hemlock is used throughout the farmhouse.
